Blind student gets MBBS degree

NEW DELHI: Anka Toppo became the first person to get a medical degree from AIIMS when the premier medical institute awarded him his MBBS degree last week.
Toppo had been admitted to the course in 1989 and was due to take his final examination in 1993 when he developed problems in his eye and became blind.
After a prolonged "procedural delay", Toppo finally took the examination last year and was awarded the degree in the convocation ceremony at AIIMS on March 13.
