Some wonderful quotes on Tendulkar and Laxman

"Silencing your critics" - is not hitting a century in a drawn match (due to ur incompetency) as some captain does (oh he also changes plans in the middle of the match and takes his team to defeat). The prince of cricket has a lesson to teach the prince of kabristan (better understood by those who speak Hindi) on how to "silence critics". What could be the best way to start a new year, than just read about what the world has to say on (still debated by 0.005% of cricket fans) one of the world's best and most awaited innings... "Yeh Dil Mange More...."

"Such a result isn't possible at Sydney, after a day when Tendulkar and VVS Laxman danced remorselessly on the grave of Steve Waugh's final Test dream. "

"The applause that Tendulkar received when he got to 100, and then to 200, was also something to savour. There may be a few rotten apples here and there – as there are in any sports stadium in the world – but this Sydney crowd didn't hold back in acknowledging one of the game's true champions. There is an impression here that this could be the last time they see him – given the demands of the international game – and there were many who wanted to see him depart these shores on a Caruso-like high note. This evening, they weren't disappointed.

Perhaps only Pele and Muhammad Ali, among sporting legends, have elicited such love and devotion wherever they went. The two Michaels, Schumacher and Jordan, dominated their sports more, but without having personalities that were as endearing."

"And there was a perverse delight in some quarters with the talks that Tendulkar's innings were never been match-winning ones. India's famous wins at Kolkata and Adelaide (both against Australia) were touted as examples. But, for V V S Laxman to play that epic 281 there was a helpful foil in Rahul Dravid's 184 and ditto for Dravid's 226 in Laxman's 140 plus.

But Tendulkar never had this benefit. Tendulkar scored his runs when others were failing around him. It was a lonely trek for him.
The image of a stern-looking Tendulkar bent on his bat while batsmen after batsmen were returning to the pavilion is an image that was played time and time out all through the 90s. "

So it hurt when unthinking fans and writers in the media talked about the great man being a spent force.

And now, hopefully, after his century at Sydney, they will all shut up.

"Watching him bat was like listening Mozart or Beethoven in their low moments.

But it was good music, still. "

There were two teams that played today, but only one showed up.

Sachin Tendulkar said he was more relieved than elated after breaking the longest form slump of his career with an unbeaten 220 in the deciding test against Australia.

-And then, it was a musical ensemble as Tendulkar and Laxman made batting look as a higher pursuit like poetry.

-After India ended the opening day yesterday at 284 for 3, Australian coach John Buchanan felt the situation was 'a bit of a carbon copy of the Boxing Day Test, when India were 320-4 at the end of day one.'

But by the day ended today, Buchanan's team was reduced to mere carbon.

Here is one on Patil and Tendulkar:

But young Patel, chancing his arm, tore into the dispirited Aussie attack, scoring runs at will.

That was the last straw on the Aussie back.
The Indians are, however, on front.
Tendulkar has put them there.
